For some reason, I haven’t come across that many tutorials this month. Nonetheless, here are two great ones:
Gold NMM painting tutorial by Flameon
Great step by step + colour palette for a nice & bright golden NMM. The recipe is actually quite similar to the one I use myself, but I like that his method starts by doing glazes / washes of the darker colour instead of building up from the darkest colour, like I usually do with gold NMM. Great read 🙂
Painting the colour black by Massive Voodoo
Black is a difficult colour (no I should say shade) to paint, I think many people would agree on that. There are, however, some tricks and insights that can make it a little easier. This great article by Massive Voodoo gives some awesome pointers, tips and inspiration!
Painted miniatures
This has been the month of slightly-larger-scaled miniatures, in terms of my favorites. No idea how that happened, but the miniatures definitely caught my eye!

Look at that leather! Look at that face and those metals! Loving it 🙂
Wood Elf by Aphoris
The sculpt by Pegaso models is of course amazing, this is exactly the style I love! The paintjob really makes her look ethereal. The skin is effortless and the green cloths really make a great subtle contrast. I also really like the warm gold NMM, something I would really like to try.
The Butcher by Stephan Rath
I always love Stephan’s use of colours, this piece is certainly no exception. The turquoise scarf makes the face, which is amazingly painted, really stand out! The non-metallic metal is just superb 🙂
Gollum by Carlos SF
Damn! I love this! The eyes are just perfect! I also really like the base, and the wet feet make it look so realistic.
Events
Impact 2014, organized by Hired Guns
Last weekend I shared a painting table at the Impact event with my friends Gerrie Schenck and Pascal Rooze. At this event I also got to see the amazing works of Michiel Coppens and the incredible skills of Peter Zuidgeest. Also the great people from Scale Model Factory were there, presenting the incredible paintjobs by Patrick Kamsma, Margot Crombeecke and their friends. I had a lot of fun at the event, and it was great to paint and chat with other hobby enthousiasts. Unfortunately, the number of visitors was quite low, hopefully they will have a better turn-up next year.
I made some pictures at the event, but somehow the quality turned out to be way too poor to share. You can see pictures HERE and HERE 🙂
